Toad Valley Celebrates Pam Hoffman's Birthday

TOAD VALLEY, July 30 — Bells rang from the church steeple, banners fluttered along Main Street, and the world-famous Waugh's Pond geese offered what witnesses described as "enthusiastic but somewhat off-key encouragement" as the citizens of Toad Valley gathered to celebrate the birthday of Toad Valley Press Secretary Pam Hoffman.

In an official proclamation read from the steps of Town Hall, the impeccably dressed and dapper Mayor George Brown announced:

Whereas Press Secretary Pam Hoffman has faithfully served the citizens of Toad Valley with kindness, wisdom, patience, and common sense;

Whereas she has successfully organized festivals, community picnics, holiday celebrations, and countless public announcements;

Whereas she has repeatedly demonstrated extraordinary grace while dealing with politicians, reporters, musicians, weather forecasters, and her husband;

Therefore, I, Mayor George Brown, do hereby proclaim this day to be Pam Hoffman Appreciation Day throughout the entire valley.

The announcement was followed by a stirring performance by the Toad Valley High School Marching Band, under the direction of Maestro Darryl Engler. The band performed a medley of familiar favorites while local residents waved banners and applauded enthusiastically.

The celebration became even livelier when Jeff Brown, longtime evening disc jockey for WFROG Radio (and former disgraced mayoral candidate), arrived with his portable sound equipment. Toad Valley Chief of Police Donna Price issued DJ Rapmaster JB (Jeff Brown) a warning to stop rapping in public since he has no style or moves.

Listeners throughout the valley know DJ Jeff Brown best for hosting the station's popular program, Moonlight over the Marsh, which features old favorites, local announcements, weather reports, and the occasional story that becomes considerably longer than originally intended.

Witnesses say Jeff spent most of the afternoon attempting to organize the celebration according to a carefully prepared schedule.

At one point, he reportedly announced:

"We'll have cake at three o'clock, music at three-fifteen, photographs at three-thirty, sunset viewing at six o'clock, and emergency cake reserves available if necessary."

Town residents were entirely unsurprised.

Meanwhile, children played happily along the shore of Waugh's Pond, where, as always, local regulations continued to permit nude tadpoles, provided they remained within the designated swimming areas.

As darkness settled over Toad Valley, lanterns glowed across the village, music drifted through the summer air, and everyone agreed that the celebration had been a tremendous success.

Mayor Brown offered one final remark before the evening concluded.

"Some people keep a town running. Other people make it feel like home. Pam Hoffman has always done both."
